Hello all! I just wanted to let you guys know that my blog will now be at this web address instead: https://thechristiancrocheter.wordpress.com/ I'll still check back here sometimes, and possibly add more posts, but, for the most part, you'll find all my new posts, tutorials, and more, at https://thechristiancrocheter.wordpress.com/. Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day, all! What are some of your Valentine's Day traditions? For me and my family, it's eating pink or red food (red velvet cake, yum!), as well as giving small gifts and/or cards. With Valentine's Day being on a Wednesday this year, I  also have school (yay!), so I got to talk to some of my classmates about the holiday as well. It's very interesting to learn about other's perspectives on holidays. Happy Valentine's Day! -Lizzie

DIY Sock Bun

Obviously, the sock bun doesn't seem to be as popular as it used to be - but that doesn't stop me from wearing one! I think that it's a really versatile hairdo, and one that never gets old. You can do a half-up one, you could do a high one, low one, loose one, tight one, braided one, twisted one, messy one.... the options are nearly endless! However, a lot of people seem to think that the only way to make a sock bun is to go out and buy the sock bun form. While it's only a few dollars, you can save that money and create one yourself, while re-using an old sock! (Make sure to wash it first, though!) How to make a Sock Bun form: Materials needed: Old (clean) sock, scissors Instructions: Cut off the toe of your old yet clean sock. It's okay if there are a few holes in the rest of the sock, as the material will be rolled up to hid them. Starting at the top of the sock, roll the material over itself until you reach the hole at the bottom. It should simply begin

Audrey's Story - Chapter Two

I hope that you enjoyed the excerpt from my book that I posted a few days ago! Here is the second chapter from "Audrey's Story", by yours truly ;) This chapter was pretty short, and definitely not one of my best chapters. Critiques are welcomed! :D Chapter Two It hadn't always been like this. No, life had been easier before, Audrey though. If only people could understand how she felt; how she was treated. Audrey had already tried to phone the police about her situation, but her mother's landline had stopped working, and Audrey couldn't make the call. By the time that night had come, Audrey felt as if she could walk no further. Her legs ached from the constant dodging of rocks and the deep ruts in the road. Not only that, but her shoes were in a terrible condition that made traveling quite difficult. She still, however, could see no trace of an upcoming town. Audrey began to think that maybe the old man was trying to trick her into thinking that there

"Audrey's Story" - January's Novel

During the month of January, I wrote my very first novel.  Okay, it was only 16,000 words, so it wasn't quite  a novel. More like a short-story or Novelette.  My book is called "Audrey's Story". The synopsis for it is below!   Audrey is a young teen who was abused at home. She attempts running away as an answer to her problems - however, she soon realizes that running away won't solve everything. She needs to turn to Jesus. On her journey away from home, she meets a teen who had the same trouble that she did - his parents abused him and his younger sister. The boy (Luke) was able to escape with his sister (Lacey), and they were safe for a few years. Luke then decided that they were 'in the clear', and that they could start living more normally again. However, once he finds out that Audrey is travelling by herself, he realizes that he should go with her. There are a lot of dangerous things out there, and he wouldn't want her to get hurt just

DIY Semi-Formal Hairstyle

If you're anything like me (which, not many people are :P), figuring out how to do your hair for a dance is difficult. Up? Down? Half up? Braided? So many options! The hairdo below is one that I'm wearing to an upcoming Semi-Formal Ball. What you need: Brush Comb Jawclip (I'm using one in a color that matches my dress) Hairspray Curling Iron (Optional) Instructions: To begin, brush through your hair to get rid of any knots or tangles. Next, gently roll your hair with a large curling iron (Sorry, I don't know the size - it was my mom who was curling my hair :-) ). For me, a curling iron works best when it's just lightly curling my hair, and then it actually straightens it. After your hair has been curled, I like to brush through it to straighten it a bit more. For this, I use a small paddle brush, while for detangling, I use a brush that has bristles spread far apart from each other, which is best for detangling. Now, for the actual style! Separate a medium

Happy February! (Two days late)

Happy (two-days-late) February, everyone! I hope that this month will be a great and successful month for all. What are some of your goals for the month of February? My time during this month is going to be very  limited, but I'll still be trying to pack in as many things as possible. Here's part of my list: What to get done during February: Write 1st draft of "Donuts, Ice-Skating, and a Whole Lot of Jesus Edit and find beta readers for "Audrey's Story" Start to plan March's book Work on my Fibonacci Science Fair project Learn new songs on the piano Finish my crocheted blanket Make at least 1 more FBF doll Write lots of blog posts :-) Raise my A-'s to A's Advertise my blog to get more traffic here And more! Again, I'd love to see your lists in the comments below! As we all know, February is the month of Valentine's Day. Valentine's Day can be taken in many different ways - some good, some bad. I know that a

Valentine's Day Cards

Image
My school is having a Valentine's Day card exchange this year - something that I've never gotten the chance to participate in before. We had the option to print them out online, buy them at a store, or hand-make them. Me being me, I decided to make them, because I love crafts. Being the fact that there are about 12 people in all that signed up, I decided to make 12  different  cards - no two can match! However, once I got started, I decided that I wanted to make cards for other teachers I have or have had in the past. I believe that now I'm up to 15 cards. A LOT of cards, right? Today, I thought that I would share a few tutorials on how to make Valentine's Day cards. The first card I'll show how to make is this one: I blurred the name out simply for privacy reasons :-) Materials needed: Dark red paper, light red paper, Sharpie, scissors that cut in a curve, glue Instructions: To create this card, begin by folding a dark red piece of

How to French Braid!

French Braiding is a very versatile and fun concept to learn. It's actually pretty easy, too, and can be used for many different hairstyles. In my opinion, it's easier to braid on my own head rather than someone else's, but that is definitely different for each person. Here's how to do a DIY French braid! Items needed: Brush, hair elastic, mirror (I use a mirror attached to the wall, and tilt it so that it faces the mirror, so that I can see both the front and the back of my head at once). Instructions: 1. Begin by brushing through your hair to remove any tangles. My hair gets into knots very easily, so it works best to start at the bottom of the shaft and work my way up. 2. Brush the hair at the front of your head back, as well as the side hairs (like when you're pulling your hair into a ponytail). 1. To start, brush your hair.  2. Next, section off a small area of hair in the middle of your head. It can be on the top, middle, or in between. Then di

Bible Verse Art

Image
Bible Verse art is something that I really enjoy doing when I'm not crocheting or doing school. It's a great way to illustrate what you're learning in the Bible, or one of your favorite songs. You can do it with other quotes that you like as well, but I like doing it with Bible verses because I feel like it helps me to grow closer to God. For this piece of Bible Verse Art, a friend of mine suggested that I use a song lyric from "Even If" by MercyMe. Here's the completed piece: If you can't read what they lyric says on the image, it is this: "They say it only takes a little faith To move a mountain Well good thing A little faith is all I have Right now But God, when you choose To leave mountains unmovable Oh give me the strength To be able to sing It is well with my soul" -MercyMe If you want to make a piece that is like the mountain scene that I drew, here's my instructions on how to do it! :-) Materials needed: Whi

Crocheted Birthday Present Ideas

Image
Winter birthdays. My mom, my sister, and my Grandpa were all born in the winter. So were a few of my friends, as well as teachers and other people whom I somehow know. With all of those birthdays, I need a lot  of present ideas. Since I love to crochet, my goal is to create a crocheted birthday gift for every person I know, when their birthday rolls around. That's probably not the best  idea that I've ever had - I'm assuming that it's going to be pretty time-consuming - but I think that it will also be a lot of fun. Would you like to take the "Crocheted Gifts" challenge? If so, let me know below! I'll be keeping an updated list. Then, when you've created a crocheted gift, you can send a picture to me through the comments, and I might just post it on a blog post! (Haha, post it on a post :P) I've missed my sister's and my grandpa's birthdays for this year, so I'll give them a crocheted gift next time. My mom's birthday is in

Who taught you to crochet?

Crocheting is mainly learned in one of two ways: Someone from your family taught you, or you taught yourself. For me, it was my Grandma who offered to teach me crochet. At that point, I was probably 6 or 7, so I didn't really have much of an interest in doing something where you have to sit down  for more than 5 minutes. However, I don't think that I really would have thought to try out crochet if it hadn't been for her. My first real "yarn journey", or whatever you want to call it, was when I discovered knitting. This was probably about two years ago. We had a couple of balls of yarn (mainly pink, as that's the yarn color that girls apparently like), and some large wooden knitting needles. I think they were size 13, or something like that. I thought it was good to start off with a large size. Boy, was I wrong! Since I was only using a worsted-weight yarn, the stitches were gigantic and loopy, and didn't look anything like what was in the book. So I ga

Crochet for Charity

Image
Crocheting is awesome, right? Well, you know what makes it even more awesome (or is it awesome-er?)? If you can know that you're helping someone out while doing something that you love. There are a ton of great charities that you can crochet and knit things for. Here are a few places to get you started: Knots of Love . Knots of Love is a charity that asks Knitters and Knotters (crocheters) to knit/crochet hats for toddlers, kids, and adults who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy. Hat knitting not your thing? That's fine! You can also knit/crochet blankets, scarves, and more. Just make sure that the yarn you're using is one of the yarns on this list here . Feel Better Friends . The FBF doll organization is for crocheters only (sorry knitters!). However, since the doll pattern that volunteers are to use is pretty simple, it's easy to learn how to make these cute little dolls. This organization sends look-alike crocheted dolls to kids who have cancer, autism,

Welcome to the Christian Crocheter blog!

Hello world! Welcome to the Christian Crocheter blog. My display name is Elizabeth Day (not my real name, just a name for online things), but I prefer Liz, Beth, or Lizzie - take your pick! I created this blog because, as you can probably guess, I love God, and I love to crochet! And both together are even better. You can expect to see lots of crochet patterns, as well as completed projects, on this blog. As this is just a welcoming post, it's very short - as you can probably see! However, future posts will  be longer, I promise! Aside from posts about crocheting, expect to see me obsessing over random things such as NaNo, hairstyles, clothes, and more. Because, while crochet is fun, it isn't the only thing in the world! Thanks for stopping by, and I hope that you enjoy my blog! Thanks, -Beth
