How to French Braid!

French Braiding is a very versatile and fun concept to learn. It's actually pretty easy, too, and can be used for many different hairstyles. In my opinion, it's easier to braid on my own head rather than someone else's, but that is definitely different for each person. Here's how to do a DIY French braid!

Items needed: Brush, hair elastic, mirror (I use a mirror attached to the wall, and tilt it so that it faces the mirror, so that I can see both the front and the back of my head at once).

Instructions:

1. Begin by brushing through your hair to remove any tangles. My hair gets into knots very easily, so it works best to start at the bottom of the shaft and work my way up.

2. Brush the hair at the front of your head back, as well as the side hairs (like when you're pulling your hair into a ponytail).

1. To start, brush your hair.
2. Next, section off a small area of hair in the middle of your head. It can be on the top, middle, or in between. Then divide it into 3 sections, try to make them equal. Complete one full stitch of regular braiding – a stitch is where you cross the right over the middle, and then the left over the middle.
3. The next time you go to cross the right side over the middle, grab a little section of hair from the right side near your face, and add it into the right section. Then cross it over like normal. On the left side, grab a small section on the left side of your head and add it into the left section, then cross over as normal.
4. Do this until you run out of hair to add in. Then, just braid like normal. Secure with an elastic.
5. If you want to, you can fluff up the braid to make it bigger and fuller. This will also make it looser and messier, so if you want a tight braid, don’t pull as much. You can also pull out some hair around your face to make the style softer.

Thanks! I'd love to see pictures of your French braids, and other styles as well!
